Abstract

Fifty sesame genotypes collected from various parts of Tamilnadu in main cropping season. The objective of the study was to estimate the phenotypic variability and the amount of heritability observed in each character. Analysis of variance revealed that there was highly significant difference among the 50 genotypes for all the characters studied (p<0.01). High Phenotypic Coefficient of Variation (PCV) was recorded for days to 50 per cent flowering, plant height, number of capsules plant-1, capsule length, number of branches plant-1, number of seeds capsule-1 and seed yield plant-1. High heritability value was observed for all the characters.
