Abstract

Field experiment was conducted to study the effect of seed hardening using botanical leaf extract on growth and yield parameters of green gram. The seeds of green gram were given hardening treatments viz., hardening with 1 per cent various leaf extract and sown along with dry seeds (control) in a field experiment under Rice fallow condition. The results revealed that Prosopis leaf extract hardened seeds recorded higher plant height, number of branches, number of leaves, number of clusters, minimum days to 50% flowerings, number of pods per plant , seed number pod-1, seed weight and seed yield compared to control. The seed yield ha-1 in the best treatment was 738 kg ha-1, which was 19.8 per cent increase over the control.
